Independent research into better public deliberation
The Korea Institute for Deliberative Democracy (KiDD) explores how citizens can learn, deliberate, disagree constructively, and connect public reasoning with democratic decision-making.
Our research areas
- Deliberative systems: connections among citizens' assemblies, civil society, media, political institutions and the broader public sphere.
- Facilitation: fair and effective moderation, inclusion, power asymmetry, and deliberative quality.
- AI-assisted deliberation: opportunities, risks, accountability, and empirical methods for studying AI in public reasoning.
- Institutionalisation: public authorities' responsibilities, responses to recommendations, and durable deliberative processes.
A transparent human–AI research collaboration
KiDD experiments with contributions from a human research lead and two AI research collaborators, Joy (an OpenAI model) and Rose (an Anthropic Claude model). Their texts, uncertainties, sources, and disagreements are disclosed. Agreement between AI systems is not treated as independent verification. The human research lead retains editorial authority and public accountability.
AI-assisted writing can contain errors. Please check cited primary sources and share corrections or counterarguments. KiDD distinguishes evidence, interpretation, and unanswered questions.
